From Discovery to Reveal – Navigating the Design Process Made Easy

Whether you're starting from scratch or refreshing your existing space, our 6-phase journey is designed with flexibility and clarity in mind, catering to your unique needs and we’re walking your through the full process here.
Let’s take a look at your 6-phase journey to your dream home with Zimmerman Interiors
Phase 1: Discovery
Every client's journey begins here – with a Discovery Call. We're eager to meet you and understand your vision. Even if you've worked with us before, every project is a new canvas, and we treat it as such. Our first step is to send you a Welcome Packet, introducing our team, services, and pricing. You'll also receive a link to book a consultation with Katie, our lead designer, and a client questionnaire to help us understand your needs.
During the call, we'll discuss your project goals and allow you to ask questions. We'll explain how to move forward, and for those ready to dive in, we start with a consultation. It's worth noting that for some clients, this consultation can be a standalone service, while for others, it's the first step in a more comprehensive project.
Phase 2: Onboarding
Often overlooked but crucial, Phase 2 is all about knowledge, transparency, and clarity. This is where we sign the contract, define the scope, establish timelines, set payment schedules, and introduce you to our personalized client studio. The client studio is your one-stop-shop, a unique login that grants you access to all project files, administrative and creative, in one place. Our goal is to keep you informed and organized throughout the process.
Phase 3: Conceptual Design
In Phase 3, the journey takes a creative turn as we begin to design conceptually. If you're a DIY enthusiast or looking for Virtual Design, this could be the final destination. We provide you with a conceptual plan, or as I like to call it, “The Recipe”, allowing you the freedom to shop for your designs at your own pace and within your budget. There's no minimum spending requirement, and you can add on services or consultations later for additional assistance.
For clients seeking more comprehensive services, Phase 3 serves as the foundation for Phase 4, where we specify exact items. At the end of Phase 3, you will have a Concept Presentation where we deliver the following things to you so that you are equipped with the full recipe and now it’s time to shop for ingredients or let us take the next steps.
2D Moodboard/Concept Board- the visual images that serve as the inspiration for your project and establish the look and feel
2D Flooplans- These drawings are critical for determining traffic flow and space planning. Many clients struggle with size and scale and this step ensures a functional and proportional space.
Elevations- These two-dimensional drawings are representation of a vertical plane or side of a building or interior space. They provide a detailed view of the wall, fixtures, elements, and design features as if you were looking at that particular side of the space from a fixed point.
3D Renderings- Like like 3D renderings of your space allow you to see how it will look in a realistic setting before you order or begin construction.

Phase 4: Detailed Design
Detailed Design is where the magic happens for our luxury full-service decorating clients and for our construction/renovation clients. We specify all furnishings, from window treatments to rugs, paint, wall coverings, and decor. For construction/renovation clients, we specify tiles, fixtures, lighting, and more. We request quotes, prepare the final design presentation, and review materials, space, and floor planning with you. This phase sets the stage for the entire project, including construction management. We will conclude this phase by having our Final Design plan with a presentation of all of the materials so that you can touch and feel items. We will also have quoted the items as well as any of the construction or labor so that you have detailed quotes of the whole process.
Phase 5: Installation and Procurement
Phase 5 is where we put the plan into action. We place orders, track deliveries, and handle any issues that arise. Whether you're a decorating or construction client, we keep you updated weekly, ensuring everything stays on track and matches our vision. You can relax knowing that we're handling all the details, and you don't need to take time off work or rearrange your schedules.
Phase 6: The Big Reveal
Finally, Phase 6 is the grand finale – the Reveal. It's time for those finishing touches that will turn your space into a true masterpiece. This is your HGTV moment, coming home to a fully transformed space with all the final touches from Zimmerman Interiors.

We offer flexible solutions to accommodate these shifts in your design journey. If you've initially opted for a standalone service like our consultation or designer-for-a-day, and find that you need further guidance, we've got you covered. Our consultations and designer-for-a-day options are designed to be versatile, allowing you to easily transition back into the design process and access the support you need.
