Cherry on Top: Reimagining a Primary Suite Retreat

Every beautiful space begins with a vision.
Our Cherry Drive project in Bowling Green, Kentucky began with a simple goal: transform an existing layout into a thoughtfully designed primary suite that blends everyday function with elevated comfort.
What followed was a complete reimagining of the home’s interior flow—converting a former family room into a spacious new primary bedroom, transforming a secondary bedroom into a custom walk-in closet, and fully redesigning the primary bathroom into a calming retreat.
Together, these elements create a cohesive suite designed to feel both luxurious and deeply personal.

The Design Vision
From the beginning, the goal was to create a space that felt refined yet comfortable—a private sanctuary within the home.
Key priorities included:
• maximizing storage with custom built-ins
• creating a highly functional closet layout
• designing a spa-like bathroom with thoughtful details
• layering materials and textures for warmth and depth
Every design decision was made to balance beauty with everyday usability.
The original bathroom felt divided into two small spaces with limited flow. One of our primary goals was to open the room visually and create a layout that felt more expansive and intentional.
When designing bedrooms and primary suites, we often draw inspiration from hospitality spaces. Our goal is always to create a sense of retreat—rooms that feel as welcoming and refined as a boutique hotel while still feeling deeply personal to the homeowner.
Reimagining the Bathroom Layout
The original bathroom layout felt like two separate rooms rather than one cohesive space. By opening the wall between them, we were able to visually expand the room and create a more seamless flow throughout the suite.
At the same time, we added a small partition wall to subtly conceal the toilet area, giving the space an added sense of privacy without closing off the room.
Bathroom Design Details
The primary bathroom was carefully designed to feel like a personal retreat.
Architectural elements such as a half wall, built-in shower bench, and integrated shelving provide both comfort and convenience. The shower design includes a vertical tile accent wall and a built-in ledge for practical storage while maintaining a clean aesthetic.
Every dimension and placement was thoughtfully planned to create a layout that flows effortlessly while maintaining visual harmony.
Custom Closet Design
One of the most impactful transformations in this project is the custom walk-in closet.
The space features tailored cabinetry designed specifically for the client’s lifestyle. Glass-front cabinets add a sense of elegance while allowing visibility for accessories and wardrobe pieces. Adjustable shelving provides flexibility, and custom pull-out storage ensures everything has its place.
Gold hanging rods introduce warmth and contrast against the crisp cabinetry, creating a space that feels both polished and highly functional.
From Concept to Construction
One of the most rewarding parts of the design process is watching a concept move from drawings to reality.
Detailed architectural plans guided the construction process, ensuring that every measurement, cabinet detail, and fixture placement aligned with the original vision.
Seeing the custom millwork installed and the spaces begin to take shape is always an exciting milestone in the transformation journey.
A Suite Designed for Everyday Living
When complete, the Cherry Drive primary suite will offer a harmonious blend of character, comfort, and thoughtful design.
By combining architectural planning with layered materials and tailored storage solutions, the space becomes more than just a renovation—it becomes a retreat designed to enhance everyday living.
